How should I prepare my skin for sunbathing?

In the summer, we like to spend our time in the sun. A sunscreen cream is a must-have in our holiday suitcase, but this is not all we can do for our health and beautiful look. How can we prepare our skin for its contact with the sun to ensure that sunbathing will be safe and its effects will last longer?

When exposing our skin to sunlight we must remember about the harmful effect of UV radiation. Their adverse effects are reduced by cosmetics with proper SPF (Sun Protection Factor) values, e.g. Dry Argan Oils from Soraya Sun Care line.

Foods which promote healthy sunbathing

In the framework of sun protection we can also take preventive measures. They include, among others, the proper diet - rich in antioxidants! It will allow us to combat free radicals circulating in our body. One of the most potent antioxidants is beta-carotene which can be found in red and orange vegetables and fruits like:

  • carrots,
  • tomatoes,
  • pumpkin,
  • pepper,
  • apricots,
  • peaches,
  • oranges.

Just make them a part of your daily diet and a few weeks before your planned holiday take one capsule of beta-carotene every day to eliminate its potential deficit in the body and to improve the skin’s condition. Beta-carotene reduces skin sensitivity to UV radiation, prevents its photoaging, protects against discolorations.

Plan your skin care treatments before holidays

If we want to prepare our skin for sunbathing, we have to think sufficiently in advance about the planned cosmetic treatments which can have impact on its thickness and resilience. Acid treatments, peelings or microdermabrasion should be performed in the springtime, so that the skin has time to regenerate before it is exposed to full sunlight. Don’t remove birthmarks and moles just before you leave for holiday, because after such treatments post-surgical scars should not be exposed to sunlight.

Hydrate your skin in the summer

You can get support in maintaining the proper hydration of your facial skin in the summer from hydrating creams (e.g. light Hydro-Creams from the Ideal Beauty line) and from the pleasant, cooling and refreshing masks. Apply cosmetics in the morning and in the evening to keep your skin well hydrated, in better condition and looking more beautiful even on the hottest days. Don’t forget about soothing care at the very beginning of your holidays, especially if you have dry and sensitive skin.

Already before the summer season moisturize your whole body with balms (e.g. from Soraya Silky Skin line), especially after a hot bath. You feel great after such bathing, but your epidermis can be a bit dry.

Drink plenty of water, not only on the beach

Still before you start your holiday, it is essential that you drink a lot of still mineral water - at least 1.5 liter daily. Tea, juices and coffee do not count into this amount. Drink regularly, with small sips, to maintain the proper level of body hydration. Waters helps to:

  • regulate body temperature (prevents overheating),
  • eliminate toxins from your body,
  • improve digestion.
